On October 24th, after months of planning and discussion, we launched our first private Facebook study group for our LMSW and LCSW users. We weren’t sure what to expect or how many of our users would be interested. Now, just over 3 weeks in, we are excited to share we already have over 500 group members, and it is growing every day! The first couple days the posts rolled in slowly as people became acclimated to what the group is and how to use it. Now, the page is flooded daily with people asking questions about some of the trickier content, discussing specific practice questions from the programs, asking for and lending support to their peers, and sharing their stories of success as we have people passing their exams every day!

Yesterday we looked at the NASW Code of Ethics revisions and how they impact the topics of competence, cultural awareness and social diversity when it comes to the use of technology. Last week, we presented the second blog in a four part series on the most substantial revisions made to the NASW Code of Ethics since 1996. In our first blog we covered privacy and confidentiality and last week we explored informed consent. Today we will look at the topic of competence, cultural awareness and social diversity. Next week we will finish up the series by exploring the revisions made regarding conflicts of interest. Alongside today’s FREE practice question for those of you preparing for your social work licensing exams, we will review the major changes and additions to the Code of Ethics regarding the aforementioned areas.

The NASW has recently released changes to the Code of Ethics inspired in large part by the need to address the ethics of technology use, both personally and professionally. While these changes to the Code of Ethics are not yet reflected on the exam, we decided to make this week’s practice question about the use of technology and social media. From our TDC Social Work Exam Facebook Study Group, to our public Facebook page, and the blog itself, we saw people choose a variety of answer options. We are excited to share the answer and rationale with you today!
