2023 ASWB exam changes: Part 3

By Heidi Tobe on April 25, 2023

The past two months, our LMSW and LCSW blogs focused on the ASWB exam changes that began in January of this year. If you haven’t already, be sure to check out the first and second blogs in this series. This will be our third and final month focusing on these changes. We didn’t plan on doing a third blog on this topic. But we had so much positive customer feedback on how helpful it was to see how a 4 answer option question changes to a 3 answer option question that we decided to do one more! So today will be a final set of practice question that first has 4 answer options and then changes to having 3 answer options.

ASWB practice questions:

A social work supervisor meets with a supervisee after receiving a complaint from the supervisee’s client that the supervisee has been liking and commenting on their social media posts. The client explained that they never gave the social worker their social media information and that this feels inappropriate. What should the social work supervisor do?

A. Explain to the supervisee that this violates the code of ethics.

B. Meet with the supervisee to discuss the complaint.

C. Report the supervisee to their licensing board.

D. Terminate supervision with the supervisee due to ethical concerns.

Now let’s change this same question to 3 answer options.

(Scroll for answer and rationale).

The correct answer for both questions is B: To meet with with the supervisee to discuss the complaint. During this meeting we will then likely do A. We may or may not choose to report the supervisee to the licensing board at this time. And this (in isolation) would likely not warrant immediately terminating supervision with the supervisee. However, if it became an ongoing pattern of behavior, both C and D may be necessary.
