I am happy my concerns and angst in addressing suicide were normalized and fully addressed. I am now more confident in talking to my clients about suicide and be able to sit with them through their pain, hold that space of confusion and the unknown for them and allow them to process in a manner that can allow their pain to be without my having to retreat into my own mind due to being scared or uncomfortable. This course will help save lives and opens the arena for a healthy discussion between client and therapist. For many of us, we did not know what we did not know until you addressed it in this course. Thank you for the clear road map regarding stressors and strength factors... not only from myself, but my clients aged 3 - 17.
I have taken a lot of courses on assessing suicidality but this is by far the best one I have found so far. I plan to do CAMS next!
This course reminded me of the importance of being present with a client's courage to be in therapy. I really enjoyed it and wish I can hear this course on an ongoing basis to help refresh my mind.
Grateful and honored to hear Amanda's personal experience as well as her knowledge base in assessment and management of suicidal ideation. Such a great model to use!
The Therapist Development Center’s suicide management course is very engaging and informative! It offers concrete interventions and examples of questions to ask an individual who may be thinking of dying by suicide, in order to help them stay as safe as possible. Unlike many online courses, this one is not heavy on written material and only reading, but incorporates a great deal of audio recordings. The information provided is often given during a conversation between Mental Health professionals, and the presentation material is fairly easy to understand. TDC’s founder, Amanda Rowan, also shares her personal mental health struggles to help clinicians better build insight to support clients.
This is such an amazing valuable comprehensive resource laden course. I want to learn CAMS, ZeroSuicide, Brief-Cope, the suicide program for adolescents at the University of Michigan resource, the inventory on critical life events. I have done ASSIST training and spent 3 months in training preparing to work as volunteer 2 nights a week at the Didi Hirsch Suicide Prevention Crisis line (one and half years) because of the suicidal loss of my brother and best friend. To be there in the moment with the suffering of the client is the key. I love this approach, the review of psychological, biological, social, and spiritual, the important breakdown of the tasks to do with client. Thank you so very much.
Thank you Amanda for creating this Suicide CEU class, it was helpful to know new facts about suicide, our profession and how we all need to keep learning especially about this topic.
I am glad I got the opportunity to take this course. I am currently getting supervised and studying for my LCSW so this course was relevant to information and felt me more prepared while doing my own studying.
This training was great in reducing the anxiety when confronted with addressing suicide ideation with clients. This approached allowed me to sit with my own discomfort and be more confident in addressing the ideation and managing the Courage to Live continuum.
I've worked in the field of social work for over ten years, including working with assessing clients who are suicidal, but now after taking this course, I finally feel competent in managing a suicidal client.
