MFT Exam Prep Reviews

Devon Jane Governski, MFT

I can't thank Amanda/team enough for helping me through this monster of an exam (the CWE for MFT). TDC's strategies were key. I found it helpful for me to think of her voice in terms of what she would do as I was working my way through the exam. Her rationales were always on point. Robin Gluck coached me for an hour before the exam- she was absolutely wonderful. I would recommend this program to anyone! I passed the SWE and the CWE using it. Thank you TDC!!! I feel like one thousand pounds has been lifted off of my shoulders.

Another success story? I doubt it! Who else can say, "I'm 70 years of age, challenged by test anxiety, stressed because I'd reached the time limit on my Los Angeles County Intern mental health clinician position. I needed to pass this exam or lose my well paying job. I studied Amanda Rowan and PASSED on my first attempt! Thankyou Therapist Development Center! You helped me secure my dream job AND get promoted!"

What I like the most about this program is how respectful and ethical TDC is. TDC does not try to teach you tricks to "beat the system". They teach from a perspective of bringing out the best in each person taking these tests. If one stays confident, knows the basics, has some basic critical thinking skills, and follows TDC's advice, it will be difficult not to pass. All during the test I kept hearing Amanda in my head: be confident of your X's, don't go into" maybe" land, move on and don't waste time on any one question, and more.

I felt very well prepared. I have heard people say that there are tricky questions on the exams. I would disagree. The BBS is not trying to trick anyone, rather they are trying to simulate an oral exam by seeing how well you can think and how confident you are. That is a lot like how it is to be a therapist.  As therapists, we often are called to quickly make sense of a situation and choose the most legal, ethical, and therapeutic way to proceed. On the test, some of the questions are phrased in a way that at first glance makes them seem complicated. However, by using what I learned from TDC, I was able to quickly identify the right answers.

I used no other test programs, so I really cannot compare.  I have heard that other programs overwhelm people with too much information and that this increases test anxiety and undermines confidence.  TDC does just the opposite. The program covered just the right amount of material in an enjoyable way. I felt calm and confident during the entire test.

I used AATBS for my first MFT CVE exam and didn't pass. The material was esoteric and dry to me. My friend recommended TDC and I'm happy to report I passed the CVE this time! The real life examples, practical verbiage and framing really made the test manageable and clear. The frames really supported my clinical gut which gave me confidence going into the test and during the exam. Additionally, I had a couple sessions with Robin that were priceless. I used her systematic way of scoring the answers and that really helped me be more efficient with my time. Thanks for being such a intuitive and fabulous program. I'd enthusiastically recommend this to anyone taking their MFT CVE!!

I found the strategies to be key to my getting through to finishing the exam. My challenge is reading slowly and some desire to "get it right" the first time. It really helped me to hear that the exams could be front loaded with difficult questions and to make sure to mark it and move on, in order to get to the very last, less challenging questions. I don't recall have this awareness for exam #1, which I gratefully passed, but ended up leaving many unanswered. Thank you for all the much needed extensions during my first year of motherhood! Onward and Upward!!
