How to become a Social Worker
Step 1: Complete a CSWE-accredited Social Work program
Step 2: Apply for your Provisional Clinical Social Work License
- Fill out the Wyoming provisional license application. This includes:
- Application fee of $150 (via check)
- Proof of U.S. citizenship
- Official MSW transcript sent directly to the Board
- 3 professional references
- Professional Disclosure Statement
- State License/Certification Verification (if applicable)
- Provisional License Supervision Agreement
Step 3: Accrue the Required Work Experience
- Work 3,000 hours of supervised clinical social work overseen by a state-approved clinical supervisor
- Of these hours, 1,500 must be direct face-to-face practice with clients
- A minimum of 100 hours of direct face-to-face supervision, either individually or in a supervision triad (group consists of no more than 3)
Step 4: Pass the ASWB Clinical Exam with TDC and Apply for Licensure
- First, contact the ASWB to pay the $260 exam registration fee
- Next, contact Pearson VUE to schedule your exam
- Then, use TDC’s LCSW Exam Prep: ASWB Clinical Level to pass with confidence!
Step 5: Submit Your Wyoming LCSW License Application
- Finally, submit your LCSW Application. This includes:
- $200 application fee (via check)
- Completed Application
- Verification and Evaluation of Supervised Experience
- Official ASWB Clinical Exam Score Report
- Acknowledgement that you have revised your Professional Disclosure Statement
Continuing Education Requirements
Pre-licensure - Social workers in WY have the same CE requirements as Licensed Social workers.
License Renewal
- Renewal Cycle: Every 2 years by licensee’s birth date
- Total Hours Required: 45 hours
- Must include:
- 3 hours Ethics
- 3 hours Suicide Assessment or Intervention

Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT)
How to become a Marriage & Family Therapist
Step 1: Earn Your Degree
- Master’s in MFT or related field from COAMFTE- or Board-approved school
- (Must include a supervised clinical practicum or internship, with a minimum of 700 hours, including 280 direct client contact hours)
Step 2: Accrue Supervised Clinical Experience
- Completion of 3,000 hours of post-degree supervised clinical training/work experience as an MFT
- 1,200 hours must be direct client contact hours
- 500 hours must be direct clinical services to couples and families
- 100 hours must be directly supervised by a designated qualified clinical supervisor
Step 3: Pass 2 Required Exam
- Apply to take the AMFTRB National MFT Exam
- Exam fee $365
- Sign up for TDC’s NMFT exam prep course and study with confidence!
- After passing the written exam, Tennessee requires an oral examination administered by a committee approved by the board.
Step 4: Apply for LMFT Licensure
- Submit supervised hours
- AMFTRB exam results
- Submit official transcripts
- Pay licensure application fee $300
